Summer Job at Pebbles - Jemima's story

Joining Pebbles for the third year in a row as a seasonal member of the housekeeping team, Jemima has found that being a Cleaner at Pebbles gives her the flexibility to work and earn well around her studies…

I am from Kingsbridge and went to school around here, and I am currently at college doing an art foundation course in Totnes before I go to Falmouth next year to do illustration,” she says.“I started working for Pebbles in the summer of 2014, just before I joined sixth form.  I didn’t want to waitress over the summer and I hadn’t really realised there was an alternative option for a summer job at my age until a friend saw a job advertised on Facebook.  I applied and everything went from there.”

“I was trained by the team who are really friendly, and I have always found I really enjoy it because you’re always working with different people and going to different places so no two days are the same.”  “It’s lovely getting to see all these beautiful houses as well.  On a more practical note, it’s really flexible work.  When I am at college I only work on Saturdays, but in the summer I fit it in around other jobs, so I can do as much as I want.”

“I really like that you can say when you’re free to work rather just being told when it suits them.   Last summer I had two other jobs at the same time, so it made it much easier for me to manage my own schedule.”

“Pebbles is a good place to learn because there’s always the chance to talk to different people from different backgrounds, all the time, and I have never met anyone I didn’t get along with there.  Everyone’s happy and nice to be around so I would absolutely recommend it to other people as a place to work
.”
