Pebble turns celebrated artist

Little makes us happier than seeing members of the team - and former members of the team, live out their career dreams, and that’s exactly what’s happened for Ed Hill.

In 2017, Ed joined Pebbles as a trainee who went to qualify with us as a team leading Housekeeper. Ed built on his skills while at Pebbles, including supervisory skills, time management skills, and leadership skills in the capacity of Housekeeper team leader.  Ed was coached to achieve in the context f Pebbles’ core values:  to be dependable, caring and exceptional.  He established roots in South Devon. and in 2017 spread his wings.  He has since gone on to achieve a successful career as an artist.

Today Ed creates from a workshop in Ermington, South Devon, creating animal sculptures from unwanted metal.  He uses items such as scissors, spanners, cutlery and barbed wire to make the forms of birds and other wildlife.  He draws the animals he can see from home before recreating them in metal, making it a truly unique take on Devon life and a beautiful way to upcycle unwanted materials.

At Pebbles we are passionate about providing local job opportunities, but also about providing a work environment that nurtures talent.

Valuing our team, and the community in which we live and work, above all else we seek to create learning opportunities within the company where people can grow within our ranks, but of course we also take it as a huge sign of success when individuals are able to grow, learn and develop personal and professional skillsets that allow them to go on and flourish in the personal and professional passions, as has been the case with Ed.

Ed says: "I liked working for Pebbles because it formed part of my spiritual development whilst a resident at the St. Peter’s Foundation Community in Malborough. It gave me an opportunity to serve the local community. Cleaning the holiday homes was a prayerful activity, whereby I could make preparations to make a visitors stay enjoyable."

A job at Pebbles is really ideal as a student because I can earn extra money in the holidays when I'm not studying, which really helps me cover the costs of uni life
