At Pebbles we are now 100% committed to an eco-friendly code of work across our services. We love our environment in the South Hams, we're aware of the threats that face it and we do what we can to keep it, for us and the generations that will follow:
Housekeeping & Cleaning: In 2007 we teamed up with M&A Environmental, a local distributor that specialises in eco-friendly products and services.
Thanks to the support of M&A, last year with the exceptions of occasional use of bleach, we went toxic and phosphate free.We swapped all our aerosols for trigger sprays and Microfibre cloths and we're proud to say that the quality of our service is as good as it ever was - just Greener! Our properties now only receive quality 100% recycled toilets rolls.
Property Management & Caretaking: Our partnership with M&A has meant a green development in Caretaking products for properties too.We now present eco-friendly products wherever possible, including Ecover Washing Up liquid and Dishwasher tablets. We present energy-saving light bulbs in replacement unless otherwise requested. We prioritise energy-efficiency on a par with value for money when replacing client electrical items e.g. freezer.
Office: Our stationery is all printed on 100% recycled paper and card, we employ a local firm to recycle our waste paper and plastics, TQ Recycle and we look forward to having the walls and roof lined this year to cut heat/energy loss during the colder months. We make small efforts wherever possible, such as boiling the kettle only with the water we need.Other innovations will be rolled out during 2009, including a greater emphasis on shopping locally to cut unnecessary CO2 emissions from distributors.
Logistics: As you might imagine, one of our greatest challenges when it comes to being eco-friendly is managing staff transportation efficiently. In 2008 we actively engaged senior staff to car share wherever possible and this summer, with a Housekeeping&Cleaning staff of more than 50, only 15-18 will need to use their own vehicles during work time.
Office staff are encouraged to walk to work - as good for them as the environment! And on new company vehicles, priority is given as much to green emissions as it is to value for money. We look forward to a new piece of company software that will enable us to plan work routes around shortest journey.
We welcome innovative suggestions on becoming more eco-friendly in our work.
